Nosey delights

The smell of a wood fire makes me so happy. It reminds me of Autumn: leaves on trees turning red, orange and yellow; the first frosts of the season; cosy jumpers and hot chocolate with marshmallows. There is something so comforting about it.

When I was a child I lived in South Africa, and there was no real Autumn. That may sound like heaven to you, but it just doesn’t feel right without a yearly change in the seasons. Being cold and needing to dress in layers and snuggle up on the sofa with a blanket and a hot drink is such a treat. Sure, by January you’re sick of coats and ice and the short days, but the start of Autumn, with that fabulous smell of wood fire, is such a special time to me.

And if you have a long Winter, you appreciate the Spring so much more.
